The Architect of Credit Management Profession in Nigeria
Professor Chris Onalo, FICA, is the visionary institution-builder widely acknowledged as the arrowhead behind the founding of credit management as a chartered profession in Nigeria. As the Founding Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute of Credit Administration (NICA), chartered, he provided the intellectual leadership, policy advocacy, and relentless drive that culminated in the enactment of NICA Act No. 26 of 2022. This ended the initial name of “Institute of Credit Administration – ICA, founded in 1992 as a non-profit organisation under the law that established Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission.
He is recognized across Nigeria and Africa as the strongest and most steadfast advocate for the development of a credit economy — an ecosystem where access to finance is disciplined, ethical, and deliberately deployed for productivity and inclusion.
