CONGRATULATIONS TO MR SAMUEL AVWEROSUO EGUBE, FICA, THE NEW DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF TO LAGOS STATE GOVERNOR.  

Samuel Avwerosuo Egube was born on 5th of March 1969. He attended Agbado Model Primary School in Benin City and Edo College Benin City before moving on to University of Benin to earn his undergraduate degree, attaining a 2nd class, upper (honours) in Civil Engineering. He went on to further his studies earning an Executive Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the prestigious International School of Management (IESE), University of Navarra Barcelona, Spain.

An avid learner, Sam has attended several courses during the course of his professional career including leadership programs at IESE (Spain), INSEAD (France), Wharton (USA) and Harvard University (USA), Columbia Business School (USA), Lagos Business School and technical conferences (OTC and FIDIC) in the Houston and Geneva among many others. He is also Member of the Institute of Directors (IoD), the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), International Coaching Federation (ICF), the Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), a Fellow of the Institute of Credit Administration (FICA), and an Honorary Senior Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (HCIB).

As a highly accomplished professional with a track record for results, Sam has demonstrated trailblazing results over the 34 years of his post-graduation career, garnering significant achievements in transformational banking, and the public sector as well as delivering effective results in optimizing and positioning teams and organizations for success. Under his astute leadership and focus on strategic visioning and implementation, Sam delivered transformational service to Lagos State as Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, where he was responsible for Strategy and economic policy development, Resource allocation, and state-wide performance management. Sam’s experiences prior to his tenure at the Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning & Budget included strategic delivery roles at Diamond Bank plc, First Bank plc and United Bank for Africa Plc. Sam’s career thus far is a hallmark of his keen focus on consensus building honed through leading roles in committees for business transformation, profitability optimization, and the financing of key infrastructure projects.

Through his extensive and award-winning banking experience, including over 17 years in Corporate Banking, Sam’s results-oriented style has led to improved productivity and profitability to businesses in sectors such as Oil & Gas, Energy, Telecommunications, Manufacturing and Technology. Sam is known for his strong leadership skills demonstrated through landmark transactions and optimizing stakeholder relationships to successfully deliver “out-of-the-box” solutions in emerging and mature markets. His successful career stints include senior positions in prominent financial institutions like First Bank plc, Arthur Andersen & Co. (now KPMG Professional), United Bank for Africa plc, and Diamond Bank (Access Bank) plc.

Sam has held several board positions in the following companies: Interbau Construction Ltd; Sovereign trust Insurance plc; SEWA Capital Ltd, Coscharis Technologies Ltd., among several others; and served as an adviser on the Expert in residence program of the Entrepreneur Development Center (EDC) of the Pan Atlantic University, Lagos.

He is the author of several books, including Thoughts from a Wealthy Perspective, Relationships are Value Propositions, and From a Long Way. He loves swimming, karate (with a black belt) and playing table tennis (Bendel State Table Tennis Junior Schools Champion). Sam is happily married to Edith Egube and has two lovely children, David and Elizabeth.
